QPR 2000
Perhaps a better term than just plain "best" for this list would be "most pleasurable wines" of the year. The 25 wines that follow were those that, without regard for price, brought sheer tasting pleasure to our dinner table; the kind of wines that made us smile and tempted us to pour a second glass or even a third.

As a matter of interest, I've sorted the list into categories by style and category, then listed them by increasing price within each subdivision. It's no surprise that the lion's share of my favorite wines of the year were dry reds, and not much of a suprise to learn that, when the numbers shake out, the largest single group of "pleasurable" reds came from Italy, closely trailed by France. But it's certainly a world-wide selection, and if you try any of these wines based on my advice, I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I have.

For more details on specific wines, every entry is hotlinked to my original reviews.

A word about availability: I purchased all these wines at retail stores in and around Louisville, Ky. I have no way of knowing their availability in other parts of the world or from online merchants; but in seeking any wine of interest, I always recommend starting with a good wine shop in your own community. Don't be shy about asking the management for help. A friendly and knowledgeable wine merchant can be your best friend in your effort to find wines of interest.
