Chateau Lanessan 1995 Haut-Medoc ($21.99)
Very dark garnet. Cassis and cedar, forward "cigar box" aromas. Full, tart and tannic flavors, black-fruit and lemony acidity. Good "affordable" Bordeaux, needs some time. U.S. importer: Commandeur LLC, Minneapolis. (Jan. 25, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: An excellent companion with gigot boulangere, a French-style leg of lamb roasted with potatoes and onions.
Chateau Bonnet 1995 Entre-Deux-Mers ($7.99)
Herbaceous Sauvignon, grassy and honeydew aromas. Crisp and fresh, light citric flavors (lemon oil!?) and firm acidity in a long finish. Tasted on a whim, assuming that this budget-priced, four-year-old white Bordeaux from André Lurton would be well past its peak, but it's surprisingly fresh and appealing still. U.S. importer: Classic Wine Imports, Boston. (Jan. 25, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Not expecting much of this old wine, I opened it before dinner to use in cooking and took a taste for the sake of science. It would make a good match with light poultry or veal dishes.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
