Laurel Glen 1996 Counterpoint Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon ($17.99)Very dark garnet. Ripe black-fruit aroma with cedar and minty overtones. Full, ripe fruit flavor, follows the nose, tartly acidic with heavy but palatable tannins, more than you realize at first until astringency starts showing through the abundant fruit on a very long finish. Very good wine - just because it plays second fiddle to the top-of-the-line Laurel Glen bottling doesn't mean it won't benefit from cellar time. (Feb. 14, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Perfect with lamb chops.
