Fleur du Cap 1992 Coastal Region (South Africa) Cabernet Sauvignon ($10.99)
Very dark garnet, with ripe black fruit aromas showing attractive overtones of smoke and tar, something I often find in older South African reds. Full and rich, flavors follow the nose, backed by tart acidity and perceptible tannins. Plummy fruit and lemony acidity persist in a long finish. Very attractive wine at a price that's more than fair. U.S. importer: Maisons, Marques & Domaines USA, Oakland, Calif. (March 4, 2000)

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
