François Cotat 1993 Chavignol La Grande Côte Sancerre ($12.99)Light greenish-gold. Delicious citric scent of limes with a whiff of boxwood, too elegant to call it "cat spray." Clean and fresh flavors follow the nose, tart and cleansing in a very long, citric finish. It's interesting to taste this "classic" style Sauvignon Blanc just a few days after the 1997 Cloudy Bay from New Zealand, a wine that I'd call equally appealing but in an utterly different style. The Cloudy Bay is technicolor, a work for symphony orchestra; this one's a pen-and-ink drawing, for chamber quartet. I like them both. U.S. importer, Willett Distributing Co., Alexandria, Ky. (July 8, 1998) FOOD MATCH: Good, but not outstanding, with smoked pork chops bonne maman, braised with potatoes and onions. The Cloudy Bay would have been a better match.
