Apollonio 1997 Copertino ($9.99)
Very dark reddish-purple, with sour-cherry and caramel aromas. Ripe and juicy fruit flavors, mouth-filling and tart; plums and a tart-sweet cherry cordial quality persist in a long finish. U.S. importer: Vin DiVino Ltd., Chicago. (July 10, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: Served as an experiment with a simple dish of chicken breasts braised with artichokes, it proves the conventional wisdom about the non-affinity of artichokes and wine: With this dish, the wine seems unacceptably sour. With the chicken alone, however, it's fine.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
