Mark West 1999 Russian River Valley Gewurztraminer ($11.99)
Very pale brass color, this wine shows light, subtle grapefruit aromas and flavors at first, crisp, tart and just short of dry, with a slightly bitter finish. Its aromas open up as it warms in the glass, adding litchee and peach aromas and a round fullness as it nears room temperature on a summer evening; in contrast with less well-constructed wines of this type, it's best not over-chilled. (June 23, 2000)
FOOD MATCH: A stunning partner with not-too-spicy Indian fare.

All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores. |
