Bruno Giacosa 1997 Roero Arneis ($15.99)Arneis is a rather unusual grape from a fairly obscure region, the Roeri hills of Alba in Piemonte, where the locals admire it so highly that they sometimes call it "white Barolo." It's certainly hearty and robust for a white! It's clear brass in color, with delicious aromas of honey and almonds and a hint of banana oil. Bright white fruit flavors, evokes tropical fruits like kiwi and starfruit, full-bodied texture with good, crisp acidity for balance. U.S. importer: Winebow Inc., NYC, Leonardo Locascio Selections. (July 31, 1999)
FOOD MATCH: Works very well with a light summer pasta salsa cruda, hot spaghetti tossed with cool chopped tomatoes, basil, garlic and olive oil.
